For the degree show shop i have been working on a number of things. I have planned to sell my degree piece as well as my bronze ginkgo leaves, cyanotype prints and post cards. At this current stage nothing has been fully made yet but this is something i will be continually working on after hand in.
For the ginkgo leaves i am planning to sell these at individual leaves presenting them in shadow boxes. The leaves themselves would be mounted in the centre of the frames. I am also planning to present the leaves with a short explanation about the plant itself and what it symbolises.
Below is the text that will be presented within the frame, this is just a draft and will likely change.
This leaf is one of six uniquely hand crafted leaves cast from the Ginkgo Biloba tree. This tree is native to China and symbolises hope, peace and longevity.
Having a short description about the piece will give the frames a personal touch and will inform the buyer a bit about the sculpture itself. By having the bronze in frames it is a much more buy-able item that the public would be able to hang in their homes. The frames also make the work look professional.
For the cyanotype prints i will be developing the prints i have already produced to a professional standard. I will likely be making more prints now i have a better understanding of the materials as well as holding out for some sunny days to get the best possible result. This whole process has been and will continue to be extremely experimental as a result of this i will only be putting the best prints up for sale. I plan to sell these prints in sealed plastic wallets to protect them from being damaged and give an overall professional appearance.
The postcards i have sent the designs off to mixam the same company that printed my book. Having bought my book from mixam as well as referring back to the samples they sent over, i know their quality and can establish the thickness of the paper and what finishes i desire. These designs are present in my research file as examples, i decided to stick with the piece i am producing for bishops arts prize. The reason for this is because after doing my research it was highlighted to me that my target audience would most likely buy the monochrome ones as they were the most appealing.
