Its over. Having final put up the degree show i am able to view the work as a whole which is something i haven't been able to do till now. I am immensely proud of the work i have produced and how it has all come together to form a complete piece of work. I am excited with the work i am producing which is something i have never had before and pushes me to investigate deeper into my subject.
When i first saw the space after having everything removed i wasn't exactly thrilled. I wasn't sure how i was going to navigate around the pillar and how well the low hanging piping would go with my design. The white space is somewhat daunting - how will i use the space? will it look to empty? will the white be too harsh against my work. In the light my final piece looks rather out of place as a result of the high contrast of white and and the open space around it. However i know this is only temporary. When the lighting is fitted it will create a warm glowing spot light on my work and the dark space around it will create a sense of curiosity and inquisitiveness. The lighting is something that will be sorted after hand in so isn't of too much concern at this very moment.
I am extremely pleased with how the frames look, they perfectly complement the vitrine. I found it challenging to order frames that would match the wood of the vitrine because i had to order the frames online. Luckily they match and really enhance the overall aesthetic of the space.
Reflecting back on my museology style of display i think my work portrays this. All the lines are clean and crisp as well as having everything matching i think makes the display extremely professional. However unfortunately the case has acquired some scratches which i have tried to remove/dull in a number of ways however nothing has worked. This is something i am going to have to deal with as the glass in the vitrine cant be replaced as it would require a whole new frame which is funds i don't have.
The vitrine is perfect for the purpose that its serving and by having the wood in the case as a stand for the ivy relates the the vitrines original purpose of displaying taxidermy birds which are mostly always displayed on wood/branches. In taxidermy the placing of a living thing that has since passed away and finding away of preserving it is exactly what i intended of my bronze ivy. My intention was to preserve an organic form as a prized material preserved in a case symbolising the species history, symbolism, traditions and origins. My curiosity in the organic forms i believe projects onto the audience because of the way i have displayed the work. It questions why have i used these plants? why are they preserved in frames/vitrine? what is the purpose of casting in bronze? These are just some of the questions i want the audience to be asking. I want them to be intrigued.
