Tree Root - Exploration & Documentation

Previously i was exploring trees and looking at making them out of man made materials, however because of my lack of skills i decided to explore the natural materials themselves exploring possible avenues for artworks. Continuing with my walks i have been exploring whats around me. Reflecting back on my interest in tree roots i began exploring the woods for upturned trees. This proved rather challenging as the area didn't have many trees that had fallen down. The image above was the best example of roots, the image resembling spiders legs intertwining with one another.

Giuseppe Penone for example takes sections of the tree and manipulates it in some way. From this i have decided to look into possibly taking sections of a tree, the roots, and presenting this in a gallery format. My first initial thought was to source the tree roots myself however because i don't own any land for me to source tree roots from a woodland i would be stealing. As well as this i couldn't possibly lift or use a chainsaw as i am neither strong enough or trained. To over come this problem I intend to research into tree surgeons and see if it possible that they have any tree roots they have removed for a client and are willing to sell them. I would have to wait for a client to ask for roots removed as it will be on their land and i wont be able to source a tree myself.

Performance artist Marina Abramovic adopts a territory where both audience and artist coincide throughout the entirety of her performance. Abramovic’s early career commenced during the 1970’s an era where performance art was ridiculed, only fuelling her aspirations to prove critics wrong. Teacher training seminar - Notes and Reflection L012

A lot of what was said in this seminar was information i already knew but i thought that it would be best still to attended just in case they had any new information of if there maybe a different direction into teaching that i haven't come across. I kind of realised this seminar was more of a push to apply for teacher training through NORFOLK TEACHER TRAINING CENTRE as they were the spokes people so they were trying to sell their company which then did make the seminar based solely around them.
